Our namesake, Dr. Jack Britt, graduated from Fairmont High
School. While attending Fairmont he participated in three major
sports, as a guard in basketball, a catcher in baseball and a
halfback in football. He was a co-captain of the football team
during his senior year.
His high
school football talents yielded him a full scholarship at East
Carolina University where again he excelled, becoming co-captain
during his senior year. Dr. Britt earned his bachelor’s degree in
physical education and social studies and later his
master’s degree
in educational administration at East Carolina University. He
earned his doctorate in education at Nova University.
Dr. Britt
started his career as an educator with the Raleigh City Schools and
after one year began teaching at Seventy-First High School. He then
served the Cumberland County Schools for 34 years, as a supervisor,
assistant superintendent, deputy superintendent, and as
superintendent from 1980-1989.
Upon his
retirement from the Cumberland County Schools, he began a career at
Campbell University, beginning as the Director of Corporate
Relations. His outstanding performance in this position earned him
the North Carolina Baptist Fund-Raiser of the Year. He later was
named Vice-President for Institutional Advancement and continues to
provide exemplary leadership at Campbell University.
In every
aspect of his life, Dr. Britt has demonstrated a relentless
commitment to accomplishment. Those who know him will quickly tell
you he is a man of high ethical standards, with unbelievable
self-discipline and a constant aim for excellence.
We at Jack Britt High School are privileged to have Dr.
Jack Britt as a shining example of the value of high school
academics and athletics. |
