As
Jack Britt High School begins its second decade of exemplary
education for students, the beliefs and values that have always been
at the core of our success continue to drive everything that we do.
We strive to create a positive school culture in which students feel
safe and excited to take part in learning. Differentiating
instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners remains a major
component of our educational mission—one that is designed to raise
achievement and prepare our students for the challenges they face in
our ever-changing global society. We pride ourselves in offering
numerous options for students, regardless of their post-secondary
plans. Whether it is an intense college preparatory curriculum or
career exploration, we offer guidance to students in making sound
decisions for their future. In a world that is becoming more and
more dependent upon technology and engineering, our Integrated
Systems Technology Academy of Engineering, a specialized program
that attracts many of our students, prepares its members for careers
in engineering or technology related fields.
Persistently making efforts to further minimize our achievement gap
continues to be the top priority of our dedicated teaching staff.
Our faculty cares about students and endeavors to ensure that all of
their individual needs are met. In 2010, Jack Britt High School has
been named an “Honor
School of Excellence”—a distinction reserved for only
those schools with 90 percent or more of its students displaying
proficiency in End-of-Course testing in core subjects
and meeting Annual Yearly Progress (AYP). We also
recognize the importance of a cohesive relationship with parents and
our community. The Family Support Committee, a group that is free
to all parents, is an active component of our efforts to continually
improve as a school. Additionally, our students benefit from the
support and assistance they receive from our athletic and band
booster clubs as well as the reciprocal relationship we enjoy with a
loyal and growing “Partners in Education” program.
Our
success extends beyond the classroom as we offer a wide variety of
co-curricular activities and recognize the importance of student
participation in them. Last year our band was awarded two Grand
Championships, and our athletic teams combined forces to earn our
first-ever Wachovia-Maxwell Cup—an extra special distinction as it
showcased our teams’ competition in a new conference made up of most
of the high schools in Cumberland County. For the second time, Jack
Britt High School was featured as a bronze medal winner and one of
America’s Best High Schools by US News and World Report.
I
welcome you to visit our school and see the great things that are
going on here each day.
